Since ages people have been using various materials for writing and crafting. As time passed, there were additions to writing tools and materials. Marker pens were one such material. Marker pens are basically pens with sponge tips and paint colors induced in it. The basic model of marker pen was invented in the year 1926, but it gained popularity by 1953 and was commonly used by 1958; whereas in 1962 the modern model of the same was brought into use. Today markers are widely used in corporate, colleges, art institute etc. depending upon various use and types of markers.

Types

Generally, markers are divided into two types of permanent markers and non-permanent markers. As the name suggests,non-Permanent markers are those which dry easily and which can be wiped off easily too. These markers can work on any type of material or surface; also, the ink is not water resistant and can smudge easily.

On the other hand, permanent markers dry off quickly and are water resistant. Anything written with permanent markers cannot be wiped off easily and tales a lot of efforts to completely erase anything drawn or erased with a permanent marker. You can paint or draw with these markers on any surface however both types of markers may not go well on wet, damply or oily surface.

Apart from these two basic types, there are few other types of markers such as mini markers which are a compact and handy version of color markers similar to sketch pens. Liquid markers are one of the less known types of markers. These markers hold liquid paint inside them and are very bright as compared to other markers and are also water resistant. It does not require much energy to write with liquid markers as it easily dispenses ink and can be used on any material or surface.

Usage in modern times

With the increase in demand for creative and unique products in the fields of art, the use of markers has increased in particular. However, the standard markers are usually used in corporate and educational institutions.

With the increasing demand, there are several brands on the market which are competing in this field. One of the major brands of marker pens is Copic. This Japanese company deals in making of markers and other similar products, and mainly distributes its products in countries like Australia, Canada, and the US.

The increasing use of markers

With the increasing use of whiteboards especially in offices and higher studies universities have marked a remarkable increase in the use of markers. The reason why people prefer markers is that markers are very hand, they are easy to use, and the markers are bright and fade resistant as compared to sketch pens. Also, anything written with a marker can be easily erased. Markers have replaced chalks as whiteboard has replaced blackboard in the modern times.
