The CBI will be investigating actor Sushant Singh Rajput's sudden demise, said Supreme Court, and ordered the Mumbai police to hand over all evidence gathered so far to the investigating agency.
The Court also stated the FIR registered in Bihar based on the complaint filed by Sushant Singh's father, Mr. K.K. Singh, was correct, and Bihar was competent to request the CBI to investigate the case.
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found hanging in his Bandra apartment on June 14.
Actor Rhea Chakraborty, late Sushant Singh Rajput's girlfriend, had earlier asked the Supreme Court to transfer the FIR registered by his family in Patna to Mumbai.
The Mumbai Police declared it as suicide and has been investigating allegations that he suffered from depression and had felt overlooked by film industry insiders and groups.
More than a month later, the late actor's father, KK Singh, filed a case in Bihar accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family of financial cheating and mental harassment.
The Bihar Police's complaint led to the Enforcement Directorate's investigations into the actor's financial status and his father's charge of money laundering from his account.
In her court arguments, Rhea Chakraborty had said the attempt to supersede the Mumbai Police investigation had grown more about politics ahead of the Bihar election.
The Bihar police denied all her charges and declared it was well within its rights in transferring the case to the CBI. And the Supreme Court has accepted the argument.
Moments after the Supreme Court verdict, Sushant Singh Rajput's sister Shweta Singh Kirti, who had been rooting for a CBI investigation, tweeted: "Congratulations to my extended Family!! So happy... first step towards victory and unbiased investigation. But it is just the beginning... the first step towards the truth! Full faith on CBI!!"
