Next Level of ADAS Solutions Are Meant for Autonomous Cars

Automobile manufacturers are geared for making self-driving cars, some of which are already being tested on the roads successfully. This engineering feat also calls for the next level of ADAS solutions that can help passengers to get the 360-degree view of its capabilities. The challenges also focus on heterogeneous sensors, connectivity, the positioning of cars, accessing deep learning techniques and software libraries. Are you also ready to drive into the future with these autonomous vehicles? It also gives various developers a chance to innovative and collaborates with researchers to get cracking on complex software packages to showcase their projects from trials to real performances.

It is now time for the car to go beyond detecting ‘an object’ or alerting the driver to road conditions, lane changing, collision warnings, and monitoring. It is also a phase for the car to be more discerning in its ability to detect, like differentiating an ambulance from a police vehicle or a truck from a parked car or a cyclist rushing in a busy lane!

A driverless car’s act that doubles up as a chauffeur

That could be a future innovation comes true

A couple of years ago, self-driving cars were typical characters in science fiction stories that came up on the silver screen too-as a mere figment of a writer’s imagination. However, today, driverless cars are a reality which can be navigated during rush hour or park itself. But for the same car to double up as a chauffeur is still science fiction! As cars become autonomous, there is immense scope for ADAS solutions. The solution is now available on SoC or chip which is clearly a new benchmark in automobile engineering and technology which can be deployed even on a station wagon if need be! It offers both, audio and visual elements where human intervention is not required. Many developers are responding to the call of new innovations. With the use of tailored software solutions and high- performance IP platforms various apps are being tested for their ability to handle multiple sensors and added fusion of algorithms. They are being tested for real-time performance keeping in mind the software-in-the-loop simulation. This itself takes the ADAS validation to the next level with turnkey solutions.

Different levels of autonomy

Hands off level for occupants

We shoot up straight to a level that bypasses the ‘grandfather vehicles of the 70s’ to the cruise controls of the 21st century. Luxury vehicles have always been distinguished by their new components. They allow drivers to navigate terrains that are exactly not on smooth highways or motorable roads. The vehicle is made to respond to the driver with sensors fitted in the system inside the dashboard. The vehicle reacts to the immediate environment and the driver. The primary goal is to keep the passengers safe. This is a level or phase that developers look at when computing solutions for the car. A further risk level is where the car enables itself to maneuver without the little help from the finger tips of the driver. The new range of Audis has the ability as their engineers lend more horsepower to the automobile in the luxury segment. A part of the solution lies in the car requesting human intervention and not going amok on the road.  This is also a power unleashed by a typical ADAS validation solution. A further level includes the car to move safely even if the driver is not able to respond to its requests. This is according to the latest SAE guidelines. The car will have the ability to slow down, park itself in a safe zone and pull over if the driver does not head the request. Will this be valid on any unmapped place or off the road navigation situations? An autonomous vehicle will be ready for such an eventuality also. This calls for tremendous research and development from the engineering team and the developers.

As the future now lies unseen, research is underway to have cars where there is absolutely no human intervention. The driver may ask the car to take him to the destination. Once this is achieved the car will no longer be a vehicle but a unique travel pod, which works in geo-fenced locations.
